MBINGA TC STEALS THE SHOW

Mbinga.  Mbinga Town Council (MTC) secured the first position in the 2023 Uhuru Torch race competition in Ruvuma Region after scoring 82.98 marks.

The Ruvuma Regional Commissioner, Hon. Colonel Abbas Ahmed Abbas, said earlier this week that MTC emerged the top winner after beating the other seven competitors.

With their marks in brackets, the competitors who lost to MTC are Songea Municipal Council (80.06), Tunduru District Council (77.96), Namtumbo District Council (77.82) and Madaba District Council (74.93).

Others are Mbinga District Council (73.57), Songea District Council (71.86) and Nyasa District Council (71).

Nationwide, Ruvuma Region secured a 10th position after scoring 76.27 marks, according to Hon. Colonel Abbas, who was speaking during a meeting with all councils in the region.

 “We have what it takes to perform handsomely this year,” he underscored during the meeting held in Songea Municipal Council Hall.

He went further to say: “Let’s do all in our power to ensure that we feature in the top three of this year’s Uhuru Torch Race competition,”

This year Ruvuma Region is set to receive the Uhuru Torch on June 8 from Mtwara Region and will take it around all its eight councils before it hands it over to Njombe Region on June 16 of the same year.  

“For us to emerge the winners, we need to prepare ourselves strategically,” asserted Hon. Colonel. Abbas.  

Some of the judging criteria are efficiency in implementation of projects, efficiency in Uhuru Torch reception, empowerment of youth and special groups, and efforts in the war against HIV/AIDs, drugs abuse and Malaria.

The list of criteria also includes the war against corruption and malnutrition as well as participation in the environmental conservation and local government election.
