MTC IN TOP 10 OF THE CLEANEST TOWN COUNCILS IN TZ

Mbinga.  Mbinga Town Council (MTC) located in Ruvuma Region is in the top 10 of the best performing town councils in the country when it comes to sanitation, the ministry of Health reveals.

Going by the results of the 2023 Hygiene and Sanitation Competition organised by the ministry in question, MTC tied for ninth position with Manyara Region’s Mbulu Town Council and Mtwara Region’s Nanyamba Town Council, beating the other 10 town councils.

The trio scored 62 marks, 27 marks lower than what the town council which took the lead scored.

The first position went to Njombe Town Council which scored 89 percent, followed by, with their percentage scores in brackets, Babati Town Council (73), Makambako (72), Nzega (71), Kibaha (70), Masasi (67), Mafinga (66) and Tunduma (64).

With their percentage scores in brackets, Town Councils which were beaten by MTC are Kasulu (56), Geita (56), Newala (56), Handeni (52), Ifakara (52), Tarime (46), Korogwe (46), Bunda (45), Bariadi (44) and Kondoa (30).    

Speaking in her office on Monday, May 20, 2024, Mbinga Town director Ms. Amina Seif poured praises on Mbinga Town dwellers and other stakeholders for their tremendous efforts in taking ownership of cleaning their environment on a regular basis.  

“We are here today because of the efforts of everybody that cleaned tirelessly every day. We all came together to work and today, we have every reason to smile,” underscored Ms. Amina.

MTC Health officer Felix Matembo said the milestone scored by MTC will be a source of inspiration to MTC to make it to the top three next year.

“I’m going to mobilize my community to make it to the top three of the next (2024) edition of cleanest town council competition,” concluded Mr. Matembo.
