NEC WELCOMES CSOs, INSTITUTIONS TO PROVIDE VOTER EDUCATION

Mbinga. The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has welcomed applications from experienced and resourceful Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other institutions wishing to provide voter education ahead of the Utiri Ward by-election.      

It should be recalled that residents residing in Mbinga Town Council’s Utiri Ward and dwellers of other 22 Wards of Mainland Tanzania will have a chance to go to the polls on March 20 this year when local by-elections are to be held.

“We are seeking experienced and resourceful Civil Society Organisations and institutions to provide voter education ahead of the upcoming local by-elections in 23 wards of Mainland Tanzania,” NEC said over the weekend through a public notice.

The public notice signed by the NEC director of elections Mr. Kailima, R.K added: “Only eligible applicants will be considered for the civic education job.”

Mr. Kailima, R.K underscored that the CSO or institution should among other things, be registered as per Tanzania’s laws, be operational for not less than six months since its inception and have voter education experience.

Further, he added, it should have a clean record when it comes to incitement and breach of peace.

“CSO or institution should be ready to finance the entire civic education exercise. The Commission will not provide any type of resources,” reads a part of the advert.  

NEC went further to say that applicants should indicate a ward they wish to provide voter education as well as the timetable showing the date and venue for the civic education.

According to the Commission, all applications should be sent to info@nec.go.tz or uchaguzi@nec.go.tz.

“The application door which was opened on February 16, is closing on February 20 (today),” reads a part of the advert.
